Mediterana

Mediterana occupies Saaler Mühle 1 in Bergisch Gladbach-Bensberg, a location that has become a destination for those seeking respite from daily life. The retreat is organized around five interconnected worlds: saunas and steam baths, thermal waters, massage and spa treatments, culinary offerings, and fitness. The architecture and atmosphere draw deliberately from orientalist and Arabic design, creating an environment the venue describes as addressing all the senses.

The retreat's philosophy centers on longevity, balance, and conscious self-care grounded in what it calls "original knowledge" alongside contemporary wellness innovation. Programs emphasize health prevention and inner calm. The sauna world operates Sunday through Thursday until 22:30 and Friday and Saturday until midnight; the thermal world runs daily from 11 to 22:30. Guests can book online or arrive on-site, though advance reservation is recommended to avoid wait times.

Ayurveda forms a significant thread through Mediterana's offerings. The retreat hosts themed programming—such as an October Ayurveda month—featuring dosha-type consultations, traditional massages (including Mukabhyanga, a head and facial treatment), herbal oil applications, and meals aligned with Vata, Pitta, and Kapha principles. Consultations run 60 minutes and guide guests through their constitutional type and practical recommendations for daily balance.

Beyond Ayurveda, the retreat integrates practices like forest bathing (Waldbaden) and grounding rituals for mindfulness, ice bathing as part of a modern longevity lifestyle, and live music and performance events. The culinary program spans wellness-focused food and drinks across multiple venues, including the lakeside Restaurant La Maison Verde. A training center (Schulungszentrum) indicates the venue also hosts educational programming.

Mediterana operates as a day-visit destination and also partners with nearby hotels for overnight stays. The After Work tariff—available Sunday through Thursday from 17:30 to 22:30—positions the retreat as a local escape for those unwinding from work. Parking is available on-site for a fee; overnight parking for vehicles up to 7.5 meters is permitted in designated areas.
